About

Hi, I’m Melissa. For several years as a child I refused to wear anything but pink dresses. My mom finally talked me into some pink pants in second grade.

And then I had two boys. So here I write about sewing in the intersection of ruffles and race cars.

I choose sewing over buying because I like unique, well-fitting clothing. And I like that through sewing I can dress myself and my family more responsibly with regards to the environment (by utilizing upcycled/recycled materials) and support small and local businesses (by sourcing fabrics and materials from them). Through this blog I want to help you do that as well.

I support small businesses because I recently took the plunge, quit my teaching job, and launched my own small business. You can  find great patterns to launch your creativity here

I’m mom to two boys who go by the nicknames Tater and Bean, wife to a Texas high school football coach, and a former theatre
teacher. Besides sewing, I love acting, reading, writing, directing, and riding horses.
