I have had this white sweater for years. I’m only 5’3″, so when I ordered it I ordered a petite. Well, I have since found out that I have long limbs for a petite person, and this is how the sweater fit me before
Not cute, huh? Sleeves an inch too short are never flattering. So, I decided to do a sweater refashion and give this some 3/4 sleeves so they would look intentionally short instead of accidentally short.
First, I marked with a pin where I wanted the new sleeves to end.
Then I turned the sleeves inside out and marked a line all around for the end of the sleeve.
Then I folded the sleeve under so that the edge of the ribbed cuff hit the line I marked, using my fingers to feel for the edge and pins to line it up.
Then I sewed just inside the edge of the ribbing. I used a short width/high stitches per inch zig-zag stitch to do this.
When I flipped this right side out, it looked like this.
Then I sewed another zig-zag close to the first one, to prevent unraveling, and trimmed close to the second stitching.
I pressed the hem, and had this
But it didn’t seem to be enough, so I added a flower. This is just a stack of the four petal shapes tacked in place with an embroidered stem.
Then I bunched up two circles and sewed them into the center. A lot like I did on the Navy Blue T-shirt Refashion.
And finally I took the sides in to make the sweater more fitted, and now I have this
Nice save and redo…this is adorable and simple. Would love it if you would link this up to our Rockin’ link party going on now at RoCa and Company. Here is the link: http://rocaandcompany.blogspot.com/2011/10/you-rock-6.html. Come and show off what you got. Hope to see you there…
