Today Abbey has a Tulip Top in the short sleeve version – which is another option included in the pattern!
Happy Friday everyone! I’m here today sharing my version of the Tulip Top sweatshirt pattern turned into a tulip tee that is perfect for the warmer weather!
I’ve been seeing lots of tulip style tops and skirts lately and have really been wanting to try to make my own, so I was excited for the opportunity to give this pattern a try!
The pattern is meant to be a sweatshirt, but since I live in the south and the average temperature is already up in the 80’s, I decided to make mine look more like a tee. I chose the short sleeve option and added cuffs to the sleeves. I also left off the hem band and just used fusible hem tape to turn up my hem and twin needle finished it. This method was easy and worked just fine for this top! I sewed up an XS and the fit is good for the stable interlock knit I used. It could be a little wider at the hips, so I probably should have graded out to the small at the hips according to the measurements in the size chart. I purchased this knit from Girl Charlee forever ago. I was able to make this top out of just 1 yard!
These pictures really don’t do this top much justice. I’m not sure what was going on when we were trying to take these pictures…bad hair day, not feeling photogenic, husband getting annoyed with me, grey is really hard to photograph??? Whatever the reason, I promise this top is so much cuter in person and it’s been getting a lot of use the past couple of days (don’t worry, I finally threw it in the wash today). I’ve been in desperate need of a new grey tee and I love how the tulip style makes a boring grey tee not so boring!
I’m wondering how this top might look widened into more of a swing top with a drapey knit. Thoughts?

I love the look. Is it possible to use an existing t-shirt to create the look.
