So many projects to sew for travel – make your next trip handmade!
We’re getting close to travel season around here. The truth is that I’ll travel any time in the year that I get the chance, but the summer always holds a few more travel plans than other times. So it’s time to prepare! Are you ready for your traveling?
First of all, start with the travel wardrobe planner (free downloadable), so you can sort out what you have and what you need. You don’t have to draw out and color all the pretty pictures, but it’s fun if you have the time. 🙂
Don’t overlook the things you need for the travel days themselves! In addition to having just the right bag, you’ll definitely want a layer. Air conditioning, fluctuating temperatures on planes, geographical changes in climate — it pays to be prepared. You’ll be all set for anything with this multi-fuctional travel wrap, or a cute kimono is lighter option that can double as a beach cover-up. If you’re starting or ending somewhere cold, a fleece poncho and an infinity scarf could be even better.
Even if you don’t feel the need to be super organized in your daily life, being organized while traveling is important. All of these projects can help, depending on what you’re bringing with you. For makeup, toiletries, and jewelry, you can sew up a dopp kit, stand up travel case (note: this pattern has been removed by its author and is no longer available), zipper pouch (or two!), and/or travel jewelry bag.
Then for packing the rest of your suitcase, drawstring bags are nice for containing small things or keeping shoes from getting other stuff dirty. And for sure, if you haven’t tried my favorite packing cubes, give them a shot. They’ll change your (traveling) life.
Finally, I couldn’t resist throwing in a few other things in case you’re headed to my preferred destination, the beach. Throw everything in your tote so you can stay as long as you like. A mesh bag will fold up small if you aren’t using it, but you’ll be glad to have it if you need to carry back sandy toys, swimsuits, etc. And the bathtub book cover will help protect your paperbacks from the occasional splash.
Now I’m jonesing – excuse me while I go book a trip that involves sand and sun…
