Hi all – today I’m participating in the Sewing for Kindergarten series at Sewing Like Mad.

By the way, the nursing gown was sewn by me – and Tater had a matching little sleep gown. But to go home he wore a handknit outfit more compatible with the carseat. Also I can’t believe how different I look – did I ever tell you I gained 50 pounds while pregnant with this kid?
But now he’s all grown up and headed out the door.
And he designed his own first day of school outfit. He chose fabrics from my stash and explained how he wanted me to mix them on a Tee Times Three. He decided which pockets and options to include on the Clean Slate Shorts too. For the record that was – side pockets yes, no zipper (mock fly – like yesterday’s tutorial) no back pockets, flat front.
And how are we feeling about this outfit and about kindergarten in general? We’re jumping for joy and showing off sweet dance moves.
What, what!
Check out more of the cute and well dressed 5 year olds in blogland over on Sewing Like Mad. Thanks for having me participate, Mie!

Wow! My son was excited about going to school, too. That is, until he actually got there. Then all the dancing and the back packs
and the new clothes no longer had purpose, he started crying and wanted to go home. Tater looks so adorable, and very light on his feet! He has an eye for design. I guess he takes after his mom 😀

So cute! I love that he designed it. Jonas weighed in heavily on his S4K (see what I did there?) shirt, too.

Hold on to these moments, burn them into your brain, before long they are grown and gone. I miss when my daughters were young, making all of their pretty dresses. Now they are young adults and leading their own lives. When they were little I would let them pick out the fabric they liked and I would make them a new dress or a pair of shorts. Your son is so adorable. And your sewing skills are wonderful. I look forward to seeing more of your designs.

I would have guessed he was a third grader. Sorry. He holds himself so confidently and grown up looking.
Your blog is serving such a need. so many young people have no concept of how much a sewing machine is their friend.
Keep up the good work.
