Make a Round Storage Basket that Folds Flat with this Tutorial

Hey y’all, today I’m sharing how to make this fabric basket. These can be used to store things, like the yarn I’m storing in mine. Add a handle and they can even be fabric Easter baskets.

You can make these storage bins in any size you’d like. I made the sides a bit higher on this blue fabric basket so I could fold down the top edge to show off some of my Blooms & Bobbins fabric that I used for the lining.

But make the sides a little shorter and these DIY storage bins become shallower, which I like for the Easter baskets I made my boys that are still being used years later. For the Easter baskets, I skipped the heavier interfacing, so they fold down easier.

Want to make your own fabric basket? You’ll need:
- Approximately 1/2 yard of the outer fabric and lining fabric. I used home decor canvas for my outer fabric and quilting cotton for the lining on both the storage and Easter baskets.
- Approximately 1/2 yard of interfacing, optional. I skipped this on the Easter baskets so they’re more easily folded.
- Piping, approximately 3 yards
Remember that if you make your basket significantly bigger or smaller than mine, your fabric needs will change. The best way to figure out how much fabric you need is to draw up your pattern, then lay it out and measure.

If you like written instructions, click on the Easter basket post above. If you prefer video instructions for a fabric basket you can watch the video tutorial below, which you can also watch on YouTube here.

Then fill your basket with whatever you choose! These skeins of yarn are for hand knit socks I’ve made/am making, and I love how the cheerful colors coordinate with the basket colors.
