I’ve been wanting a serger for a while, but when I was only sewing for myself and my kids I couldn’t justify the money. Now that I’m sewing for others through my Etsy shop, I needed to get one, but we’re facing a big drop in income come September, so I’m still having a hard time justifying the price.
I got a $20 Baby Lock Protege at a garage sale last weekend. The lady said it had feeding issues, but so far I haven’t found them. It works fine – WHEN IT WANTS TO – and so far I haven’t been able to discover the exact magic combination to make her happy on a regular basis. I’m torn about whether I want to buy the manual in hopes it will have the secret password, or just continue to rethread and adjust tension and save the money for a new machine.
