Sketch your clothing ideas on your own personalized croquis

Hey y’all, today I’m sharing my review of the My Body Model app, which is a cool app you can use to create personal croquis based on your personal body measurements. All the sketches you see in the image above are on my body as generated by the app.
When I reached out to the creator at My Body Model about this post, she was generous enough to provide me with the downloads to review, but all opinions here are my own. And after playing with my own croquis, it is my honest opinion that these are completely worth their cost. I made a video with more of my thoughts which you can watch below or on YouTube here.
While I can draw, it’s hard for me to casually create art. For me it always involves zoning into a specific headspace for a good chunk of time to be able to put to paper or canvas the things in my head. While clothes are on the easier end of the scale for me in terms of things I draw, illustrations of bodies wearing clothes are not. Especially not my own body!

So I love that these provide a super convenient shortcut for me. I can import the figures onto my iPad and digitally sketch on top of them while I’m also sitting with the Coach watching TV. There’s a time lapse of me doing just that in the video above. The printable paper ones from the planner download are also convenient to attach fabric swatches to and make pattern notes. All of that means that I have been doing a LOT more idea generating lately, and that is nothing but good for my own creativity.

Another great thing about My Body Model is that you can preview your croquis before purchasing. So you enter your measurements and then you get to see how it sketches you. Mine was super close right off the bat, but I did use one of the optional adjustments to lower my bust line just a bit (which is also a pattern adjustment that isn’t unusual for me). You can see in the comparison image above just how the app-generated croquis and my actual body compare.
As I said earlier in the post, I definitely recommend this tool and will be making much use of it for myself!
