This post is brought to you by Modern Yardage. I received fabric in exchange for this post, but all opinions are my own.
Have y’all heard of Modern Yardage? It’s a new fabric printing company. Since they print their own fabrics on demand, they can offer tons of designer prints, and they print just what you need.
I love that they can also offer the same print in several different scales – tiny, small, medium and large. I used two prints from the Poppy Hop collection – Dance in blue, medium sized, and the Pillow Panel in Blue. The pillow panel is an 18×20 panel. When I originally picked my fabrics, I thought I’d make something for baby girl, but then I got them and decided the scale of the pillow print would work better on me. Plus I wanted to keep it.
Since I was originally thinking about a cross back top for baby girl, and it’s been soooo hot and humid here, I decided to try the crossback top on myself. In a more modest way than I would have put on her – don’t want to go showing off that mommy muffin top.
I finished the edges with bias tape since that’s been my thing for the last few months and because I was trying to use every possible inch of that pillow panel.
Oh, and did I mention I’ll have a free pattern for this on Monday? And that since it’s such an easy fit, it will probably work for teens/tweens too? Yup, come back on Monday to get the scoop. And in the meantime check out Modern Yardage – there are TONS of other cute prints.

I love it! And I love you for offering the pattern! Have been looking all over for a womens top pattern for woven fabric and I just couldn’t find what I like! 🙂 Cant wait for Monday! (Did I mention I wear the same size as you do? Yay!)

I have been looking for a women’s top like the baby/toddler version for a while now. I thought I’d be able to draw up a pattern myself but it looks like you’ve saved the day! I can’t wait to see the pattern on Monday. Thanks!!!!

This is cute….I’m thinking about making it 2-3″ longer…more like a tunic length…What do you think…Will it still look good? I welcome opinions! Thanks all

I’m am so excited to see your top made from my fabric! It would be possible for me to do a smaller scale version of the Poppy panel that could work for a child….that’s a great idea. You could suggest a size for me. Thanks so much for using my fabric.

Love the top and love the fabric. I sure wish I could find some with such good taste that designs for plus sizes. Am also not sure how to size up to make it fit eighteen to twenty size range. Anyone with any ideas or that can point me to any tutorials?

I love this! I know exactly what you’re saying about the Mommy Muffin Top!!
Does it still count if your son is 32 years old?…..Great job, as always, on the pattern and tutorial.
Thanks Melly! xo
