Hey y’all – lets wrap up Sewing for Men month with a video tutorial to sew henley plackets! This is a great way to take a plain t-shirt pattern and upgrade it. And who doesn’t love a guy in a henley t-shirt? (Bonus- you can sew this on woven t-shirts as well – and for women and kids! Who says men get dibs on henleys?)
I’ve got a video tutorial on how to do this, watch below. If the video doesn’t load for some reason, you can also watch on YouTube here.
And if you prefer a written tutorial, see this post on how to sew henley placket.
To make this shirt I used some thin knit I picked up in the Dallas warehouse fabric district, and knit ribbing for the collar. The Coach appreciated the lightweight knit -important for Texas summers, especially if you’re taking the boys out to play ball.

Thank you so much for posting this. I am a beginner sewer and have been so intimated by the jargon used in all the sewing books and patterns I currently own. I am expecting a boy in November and wanted to start learning how to sew so that his clothing was more versatile, fun, and personalized. I wanted to alter a patten I saw and this henly placket was exactly what I was looking for! Thanks again for making it so simple to follow your instruction and for sharing your video how-to. Please continue to share I will be forever grateful! : )
