Make custom covered buttons with this tutorial – cover buttons with any fabric you like!

Hey y’all, I have a simple technique tutorial for you today – how to cover a button. It’s easy to make custom covered buttons to match any project you’re sewing. Check out the video below to see how, or you can also watch on YouTube here.
The button kit I used in this video comes with everything you need to make these. I used the 1/2″ kit, but they come in all sizes. You can get it here (affiliate link).

Once you see how easy it is to make these buttons, you may start making perfectly matching buttons for every project! Check back later this month to see what I sewed these buttons on to.

I used to cover buttons for customers all the time in the 80’s when I worked at a fabric store. It was much more common then than now. Nice to see people still do it. It really adds to a garment.

I love covering my own buttons for projects. It makes it feel more custom made. I covered larger buttons for my tufted diner bench cushion project.

Thank you! I’ve had a shirt I made sitting off to the side because I needed a (mostly decorative) button to finish the collar and I couldn’t find anything that I felt worked. This is perfect. I can finally finish my blouse! So simple!
