Hi everyone! I am Elizabeth, one half of the duo of Elizabeth’s that is Simple Simon & Co. We are two girls who married brothers and ended up with the same name. Confusing?….Yes. We get confused ourselves sometimes….and are often joking about who is the “good Liz” and who is the “bad Liz” on any particular day.
When Melissa asked for a sundress for summer, it was kind of a tough one for me because I wanted to make something “extraordinarily out-of-the-box creative.” But no inspiration was coming. (Don’t you hate it when that happens? Argh.)
Until one day I saw my {almost} seven-year old drawing flowers and laughed to myself. Number one, because they are the same flowers that I drew in First Grade…and number two, they are the same flowers that every First Grade girl I ever taught also drew.
So, I thought that instead of making some “out-of-the-box extraordinary” I would make something to capture a First Grade memory before it slipped away.
Which is better than extraordinary, right? (Please say yes…..)
And this is the result. A simple sundress with drawings of her First Grade flowers on it.
I only know simple embroidery, so I just used what I know. Running stitches, back stitches, satin stitched and french knots. And after a few nights of embroidering and vegging on the couch….I sewed the skirt onto a rectangular bodice and then sewed on some easy straps.
This poor girl may not have a scrapbook (I am a TERRIBLE scrapbook-er) but she will have her First Grade flowers to remember.
Thanks Melissa for having us! It is always fun to be in such amazing sewing company!

I love this. So would my little girl but I have no clue how to embroider at all!
