I’m sharing my last creation from Kids Clothes Week July 2014 today – this Bookworm Button Up. This is View B, with short sleeves. In Versace shirting.
Apparently my lil Bean has inherited my gene that allows me to pick out the most expensive option without meaning to and without looking at the price tags. Not knowing this, I told him he could pick out any fabric he wanted when we were on vacation in San Francisco and we went into Britex Fabrics. BIG MISTAKE!
This one had a nice soft hand and a woven diamond texture, and he immediately declared, "That one! That's the one I want." I glanced at the tag on the end of the bolt. Versace, $27/yard. Gulp.
Negotiations ensued as I tried to convince him of the merits of one of the other green fabrics. Nope, not having it. In his 4 year old voice he kept declaring, "That one's not good. I want THAT one."
So. When on vacation, and when in Britex Fabrics, maybe don't promise your son he can pick any fabric he wants unless you are prepared to back up that statement when he picks something expensive.
Luckily, since the fabric was 60" wide, I was able to squeeze this shirt out of 1/2 a yard. Barely. It's not the recommended yardage at all, but with some creative cutting, I made it work.
And that cheese face below? A pretty fair reward, I'd say.

Love the color on him – he has great taste in fabric! 🙂

This is a very nice shirt, and you know, he looks just like his dad in this shirt! He’s just missing the sun glasses.
Great post, have a nice day!

Good for you for letting him get the fabric, and for creative cutting. It will be his favorite shirt until it is tight on him. It looks fabulous!

Oh, my! That might be a fine thing to say at some shops, but Britex? Nooooooo. I am always there, like, oh this is so nice, wait a minute, SEVENTY DOLLARS A YARD?!!! I joke that once you’ve been there for 20 minutes, you find yourself saying, “but this is ONLY $29.99 a yard! what a steal!”
But it’s a gorgeous, gorgeous shirt. Their stuff is expensive, but I love everything I make with it so much, it really seems almost worth it to buy only the very best!

awesome taste – and this is how I am with bags and shoes…. I walk into any store and immediately pick up the one that is 4x as much as anything else in the store ;op I tend to put it back though – but for my kids, that might be a different story ;o)
