Hey everyone! With Kids Clothes Week happening in two weeks, I decided to do my first ever pattern tour for Blank Slate Patterns – all this week! Hopefully my super talented tour bloggers will help you see how versatile these patterns can be, and you’ll be tempted to whip some up yourself.
But on another note, I’d like to get serious for a bit. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and many years ago I lost my maternal grandmother to the disease. She had a flair for fun, fashion and especially shoes. And in the midst of her struggle with cancer she introduced me to pizza delivery – one night, when we were staying at her house in the summer, I decided pizza sounded good and she ordered some to be delivered (I had no idea they would do that – my adolescent mind was blown!) and we ate it on her bed.
More recently, as in the past two years, two former coworkers have battled breast cancer and lost.
So why do I bring this up? Well, because 50% of my profits this week are going to go to the Komen Foundation to support breast cancer research and services. Because this stupid disease has taken too many people too soon. So besides getting yourself something fun to sew and giving your kids or yourself some handmade love, your purchase from Blank Slate Patterns this week also supports a worthy cause.
On to happier things – like the amazing stuff the tour bloggers have sewn up!
Melanie, from the Crafty Cupboard, made this GORGEOUS Zippy Jacket. Like I love the fabric so much I really want one for myself. Hmm….
Also, Melanie is one of those bloggers I’ve been lucky enough to meet in person – she spent some time in Austin this summer and we got to hang out at a fabric store event. And she is awesome and lovely and funny I liked her so much I was sad we didn’t get to hang out more while she was here.
Go to The Crafty Cupboard to check out her jacket and more photos.
Susan from Living with Punks stitched up a Cool Cardigan. And with the fabric choices here, this pattern lives up to its name and is super cool!
As is Susan – I mean who doesn’t love a mom who refers to her twin boys as “the punks”? Been there, fellow boy mama!
Head on over to Living with Punks to check out the front of this cardigan and more photos.
And finally, one of my favorite bloggers to hang with in real life, Stef from Girl, Inspired, sewed both a mother and a daughter look, using the Rose T-Shirt and the Pristine Swing Dress. Which she and her daughter wear gorgeously, of course.
Funny Stef story – she and I have the same paranoia about bad pictures. We took this one together at Sewing Summit, and made poor Marissa re-take it at least 5 times before we both signed off on using it on social media.
So you know the same attention to detail went into the rest of the photos you can see at Girl, Inspired.

KWC is next week??? I thought it was in two weeks…? Anyway, I’ll guess I’ll buy the Zippy Jacket this week so I can make that! I’m glad I waited so I can support your cause!
And thank so much you for supporting breast cancer research. Working in this field I can tell you, there’s a constant need for funding and any form of support is welcomed!
