Hi all, this is Eveline from Frölein Tilia, and today I’m sharing my Tulip Top with you. (aff link)
I’ve wanted to sew this pattern for a long time. I especially liked the charming tulip-shaped front part. Since the theme of this month is cozy, my plan was to sew something that is both cozy and stylish.
I think the Tulip Top is a perfect match.
The fabric I used was a slightly firmer cotton jersey from my stash. It is very soft but still has a good weight. Above all, it is wonderfully cozy.
Since I wanted a rather oversized top, I chose one size bigger. (I cut size L instead of my usual M). Furthermore, I lengthened the front, the back, and the sleeves of the pattern by 3 cm. Since the ruffles are a little bit bulky, I didn’t want them to hit the belly area. For this reason I extended the shirt so that it ends at the height of the hips.
As you’ve surely noticed, I slightly hacked the pattern. I guess the most eye-catching thing about my top is the frill band at the hem. To do this, I cut two 10 cm (4″) wide stripes using the whole width of the fabric. Together they are almost twice as long as the hem edge of the top. After sewing the two strips together, I gathered them until they matched the length of the edge.
I mentioned before that I lengthened the sleeves. I did this because the cuffs I used were shorter than the one in the pattern. And I absolutely wanted to use these cuffs, because they mirror the ruffles at the hem again and give the top glamour with the metallic glimmer edge.
The comfortable Tulip Top will accompany me in the coming winter months and will certainly give me many cozy warm hours. If you still need a comfy and stylish top in your wardrobe, then I can highly recommend the Tulip Top to you!
Happy Sewing!

I love this version!! It doesn’t look too large, NOR does it look handmade! So stylish as well as trendy! Thank you for sharing!! Also, those sleeve cuffs, OMG, is this a prod you purch’d or were you reusing something you already had? IF you don’t mind me asking that is.
