Earring holder – make an earring organizer and untangle your earrings!
Hey y’all – today we’re going to celebrate an organization hack that I am so thrilled I figured out! I made these easy earring holders and after DECADES have freed myself from the tyranny of tangled earrings and not being able to find my favorite pair.
I’ve been storing my earrings in a pretty silver box for years, and the box sits on my dresser. but as my collection has grown, so has the potential for tangling. See what my earrings looked like before this project below.
And what it looks like now – sooooooo much better with the earring holders, right?
These were super simple to make. In fact, the video below shows the process in less than 2 minutes. You can also watch it on YouTube here.
To make your own, start with the box you want to store your earrings in. Then get felt, plastic canvas and a measuring tape.
Measure the inside of the box, and then cut your plastic canvas into pieces that are 1/4 inch shorter and 1/4 inch less in width. Then cut two pieces of felt for each organizer that are the same dimensions as the inside of the box. And finally cut a tab that is 3 1/2 inches long by 1 inch wide.
Since felt doesn’t fray, you don’t have to finish the edges. Fold the tab in half and center it between your two felt pieces on one short edge. Stitch around 3 sides with a 1/8 inch seam allowance, leaving the bottom open.
Insert the plastic canvas and then sew the bottom edge closed with a 1/8 inch seam allowance. Use a seam ripper to poke a hole in the felt. You can feel when you’re in the holes of the plastic canvas, and that’s what you want. Then insert your earring through the hole and repeat until all your earrings are organized!
I layer these earring holders with tabs on opposite sides, so there isn’t a bunch of tab bulk on one side only. And I love that instead of gnashing my teeth while I try to untangle earrings, I now smile at the pretty colors inside my earring box.
