What takes a great pattern to the next level? Bling! Well, sometimes it does, haha! I sewed up a Beachy Boatneck in some lovely striped knit, but it was just begging for some sparkles. Now, let me start by saying that the time invested in this shirt was about 1/4 actual machine sewing and 3/4 hand-sewing sequins on, so not by any means the quickest way to jazz up a shirt!
The shirt itself is such a quick sew since there isn’t a neck binding to fiddle with – it’s just faced with some more knit! There’s plenty of stretch and room to pull over the head, and the fit on the shirt is spot on. I usually have to size down for this kiddo, since she’s so tall and slim, but this one was perfect!
I have a love/hate relationship with my double needle right now, so I hemmed this with a zig-zag stitch and it looks great! The sequins were sewn on using this video tutorial. I simply traced around a heart shape using a washable fabric marker and then followed the line to sew on the sequins. It was somewhat time consuming, but the effect is so worth it!
This pattern is a great one to bulk up your little one's fall wardrobe. Classic and QUICK! And so easy to modify to suit your style. What about a small accent pocket in a woven fabric? How cute would that be?
