Sarah has a great skirt variation on the Fresh Bloom Frock for you today…read on to see it.
Hi there, Melly Sews readers! It’s finally beginning to feel like spring up here in the north! We’re getting some much needed vitamin D and the kids are playing harder and sleeping longer!
I love this Fresh Bloom Frock pattern because it screams spring! It’s sleeveless with a fun neckline, and a simple button (or in my case, snap!) closure on one shoulder. I really wanted the unique collar to stand out, so I decided to keep it simple and repurposed a white skirt of mine.
I made a few simple changes to the pattern: for the skirt, I chose to add in some fullness and gathered it to fit before sewing it on to the bodice. I also put navy piping in the collar to really make it pop!
It’s so summery and light, but stands out from your everyday sundress with that collar! Girly-girl said that she was a princess…I’m thinking because of the collar? or maybe the twirl factor?
This was a super quick sew with fantastic results! The fit was spot-on, and length is beautiful. I like dresses fresh off the machine to hit just below the knee to allow for a growth spurt. I honestly thought this was going to be SO long on her when I was making it (at night, as usual!) but when I tried it on her, I realized how much she’s grown! Eek! I better take advantage of her willingness to wear mommy-made while I can!
Happy Sewing!
Laura
Even my girls at 22 and 20, still request Mom-Made pieces, the latest being underthings! Love the look with the collar and the piping.
