Today I’m sharing a women’s football jersey tutorial, with a free pattern for you to use. I made this to upcycle one of the many football t-shirts I have from the Hubby, but then I made it in regular fabric, and I love it for everyday wear too. Particularly since I have not been doing great with either running or eating well and this shirt skims over the mom gut.
UPDATE: This pattern is no longer available for free. But the good news is that it’s now sizes XXS-3X (bust 28-44″) and available in the shop.Â
So, want to make your own? You’ll need:
The pattern. This is a women’s size small (bust 32″). Keep reading if you’re not a size small. (Please remember my free patterns are for personal use only. Thanks)

- Knit fabric, including ribbing for the collar. I upcycled a t-shirt for the black and blue version.
- Optional: twin needle for hemming
Because the shoulder part of the pattern covers the front and the back, it’s a little hard to grade this pattern up. I’d suggest making your own pattern – I simply overlapped the shoulders of my t-shirt pattern front and back at the seam line, then traced the armhole and neckline, cutting the pattern off at the bottom of my v-neck. Then I created the bottom part of the pattern the same way, tracing from the bottom of the v-neck down.
For the neck ribbing, cut a piece of ribbing 19″ long and 2″ wide. Fold it in half, wrong sides together, matching the long edges
If you want your sleeves to have a stripe detail sew down bias tape strips. I made the bias tape out of the fabric I used for the yoke on the football jersey.
Sleeve detail:
Spot the camera remote (must get better at hiding that thing):

Your stance, hair, smile and the way you look remind me of Julia Roberts, has anyone ever told you that? You really look like her on this picture and the upper picture with the plain green jersey, to me. Nice job on the sports jersey.

I really like the jersey look!!! What a fabulous way to upcycled the tent style t-shirts that are sometimes given away!!!

O…. and is there some reason why you didn’t serge across the front where the color blocking shoulder meets the front logo piece?

I made this shirt for my daughter last night and she loves it!! Believe it or not she is 10 and it fits her perfectly. Yes, she is going to be a tall girl like myself and her father. I am going to go print and sew up your raglan T for her now. I will have pictures posted on my blog soon. Thank you, thank you for your hard work and free patterns 🙂
