I think Instagram is my favorite social media, and today I’m going to show you how to embed an Instagram feed on your blog. And if you’re looking for more denim inspiration, never fear, Sabra has you covered today with what to do with your old jeans.
I love that Instagram is short, sweet, and to the point with the visual. So a while ago, I started sharing Daily Sewing Tips over there, and a lot of people like them. But then I thought, what about all the people who aren’t on Instagram or don’t follow me there? So then I added a tab to my menu for Daily Sewing Tips, to point all of you wonderful readers that way.
I used a tool called SnapWidget.
After you click “Get Your Free Widget” you go to this screen. You fill in your Instagram username and the other info. I used the hashtag #dailysewingtip so that just those photos from my feed would show up, but if you want all your photos to show just leave that field blank.
When you’re done hit the green “Get Widget” button and this will pop up with your code. Copy it.
Now if you’re on Blogger this is easy – just paste that code into your HTML either in a post, page, or in an HTML box on your sidebar. Voila!
If you’re on WordPress, it’s a little trickier if you want to put it in a post. WordPress does this helpful (sometimes) thing where it strips out HTML from posts and pages if it thinks you don’t know what you’re doing when you pasted it or wrote it. So in order for an iframe to work you need a plugin. I use iframe shortcode. Once you have your plugin installed, then you can paste your code, but you have to type brackets around it. One last tricky thing – sometimes you have to do that in Visual mode on your post, and sometimes in Text mode. And it won’t show up until you publish the post or page. So try one, publish, and if it looks wrong go back and do the other.
Luckily if you want this in a widget on WordPress, you can just paste the code as is.
So are you on Instagram yet? Have any ideas for next month’s tech tip? Leave me a comment, I’d love to chat.
