Today I get to review the latest sewing pattern from my friend and Pattern Anthology partner in crime, see kate sew, the Penelope Peplum.
So, I kind of love this top. I sewed it up in the midst of crazy amounts of sewing for Alt Summit (which, incidentally, I am on a plane to today). And it only took me 30 minutes. Now that’s my kind of sewing!
I made a size S, and I like the fit for the most part. I will probably shorten the armscye slightly when I make this again , and that’s just my own fit issue and nothing to do with the pattern. You can see the tiniest wrinkle above my bust, and this is from the armscye length. It’s a common issue I have with a lot of patterns, just due to my short torso.
I do love how the shape is defined on top, but the peplum hits at just the right place to skim over the mom belly without highlighting it.
The fabric is a houndstooth jersey I ordered from Banberry Place ages ago. For some reason I only got 1/2 yard. With very careful cutting, I managed to get the front, back and skirt pieces out of this 1/2 yard, but I didn’t have enough for the sleeves or facings. So I used a solid turquoise interlock and I love the way that turned out.
There are a ton of options with this pattern, and there’s an add on pack so you can turn it into a dress(!) and like I said it’s a super fast sew. Oh, and there’s a little girl version too, the Pippa Peplum. So go grab this pattern and start sewing!

I love it Melissa, that color is great on you and I’m a sucker for houndstooth of any style or color! Real cute, I might have to put this pattern on my list.
