Pier 49 Pants by Peek-A-Boo Patterns

For a tutorial on the star stamped shirt, go here.

Today I’m honored to be a stop on the Peek-A-Boo Pattern Summer Tour.

I made the Pier 49 Convertible Pants as part of Bean’s Stars & Stripes outfit for July 4th.
The pattern was easy to print and easy to follow. You could whip up a pair of these in not a lot of time. I decided to go subtle with the contrasting pockets by just turning the direction of the stripes, and then I  added some extra detailing by adding a contrasting lining (not part of the pattern), making the back buttons functional, and using the contrasting fabric on the underside of the pocket flaps.
I think the lining will also add wear to the pants, because it reinforces the knee area, and with boys, reinforced clothing is always a good idea. To add the lining, I simply cut out the bottom of the pants legs again in my lining fabric. Then I sewed these pieces into legs.

The fit is great; I made Bean a size 3, even though he’s normally in size 2. I made them big on purpose because the pants are convertible so they can get more wear – as long shorts now, as pants in the fall/winter, and again as shorter shorts next year. Hooray for lots of use out of one project!

Back view:

Bean loves them, and he felt so special that I was sewing for him and that he got to be the photo shoot subject.
