When I got the list of themes for this season and saw Color for Week 4, I knew instantly what color I wanted to work with and where I wanted to shoot photos. In our part of Texas, it is a spring tradition to go shoot portraits in the wildflowers, specifically the bluebonnets, and after a terrible drought last year, we got enough rain at the right time to have gorgeous fields of bluebonnets this year. Wildflower White is the perfect look to wear for timeless photos.
The dress is layers of cotton gauze, one of my favorite summer fabrics because it’s light and easy to wash and wear. I started with a simple strappy sundress, fully lined with more gauze, then added the draped layers at the sides and topped it off with every trim in the store (at least according to my Hubby). It has crochet lace straps and trim, a stretch-shirred off the shoulder lace flounce, and a coordinated headband with scraps of lace and cotton gauze rosettes. For my son’s outfit, I used white linen, and drafted a shirt in a guayabera style, with embroidery down the fronts and on the back, traditional pintucked pleats matched at the shoulder seams and patch pockets. The shorts feature cargo pockets, cuffs, a mock fly and button tabs. They are fully lined so we don’t see undies peeking through the white linen. Find the shorts tutorial here.

I love Tater’s shirt! It is a perfect boy’s dress shirt. I would love a pattern, or tutorial on that if you have the time/desire.
I bet your daughter absolutely loves that dress. My girls would feel like the perfect princess in that outfit. I love the embroidery on your son’s shirt… and what a beautiful location
I don’t suppose you’d consider making this dress in adult size for me? I am in LOVE with it
Melly, everything turned out so great! I love every piece, but I am SO in love with those cargo shorts. They are so fun…my boys would love them.:)
All the projects today at pr&p were lovely but yours was so romantic I had to vote for it!
I like it! I like white!
Just voted for you. Definitely two beautiful outfits and your photos are lovely.
Wow, the flower fields are just gorgeous! I love the boy outfit especially. Those shorts are so sweet, and I love the pleats on the front of the shirt. I need to find some gauze to sew with!

Beautiful outfits and pictures!!
These outfits are absolutely gorgeous!! Is there any way you would consider doing a tutorial on how you did your daughter’s dress? I’ve been wanting to make something like that! Gorgeous pictures!
Thanks! I didn’t take any pictures while making the dress (oops!) but I might be able to do some sketches of how it went down. Let me work on that.
That would be great–whenever you get a chance!
Thanks!
