My sweet niece (seen in this post) is getting baptized, and I get to make the dress. I’ve got it all pinned out, but I needed a break from sewing and I’ve been itching to knit. I decided she also needs a knitted baby bonnet, so this is what I did today.
I made a silk ribbon out of scraps from her dress, and did a rolled edge on it, then laced it through the eyelets. The flowers are rolled rosettes also from the silk fabric.
Here’s a couple of closer views of the lace stitch
I kind of made up the pattern as I went along. I started by casting on the picot edging, which I got from Nicky Epstein’s Knitting on the Edge. Then I used the lace pattern from a scarf I found on Knitty. Here’s their lace picture – much easier to see the stitching than in mine.
I knitted a T shape, with the horizontal part of the T going over the front of the head, and the vertical part forming the back.
It wouldn’t be too hard to post this as instructions if anyone is interested. Leave me a comment if you are. You can find the instructions for this hat HERE.
Pictures of the sweet girl wearing this are in this post, but here’s a sneak peek.
