His and Hers Henleys – Project Run and Play Signature Look

I had said goodbye to Project Run And Play (albeit with some disappointment; I really thought the Fairytale Seersucker was some of the best sewing I’ve ever done and nothing!) and made my peace with it, and then they go and announce the Signature Look Sew Along. Well, of course I was already hooked, so here’s my look.

It started with Tater, of course. My signature look is sewing for boys (and all the tailoring that entails) and through Project Run and Play I’ve stretched into sewing some cute girl stuff too, but that’s not my primary focus.

For the first time in the Sew Along, I used a pattern that wasn’t my own creation (Shwin &Shwin’s Nowhere Man Pants for Tater). I really like how the pants turned out – they were great on my skinny guy. I added some pocket detailing on the back.

The henley was based off my own pattern. I dyed the blue knit to get the perfect shade, then freezer paper stenciled the houndstooth design, picking up colors from the pant accent fabric.

For the girl look (Tater’s best girl friend) I decided I wanted a girly take on the henley. So hers has crocheted lace around the placket, hem and sleeves, and pearl buttons.

I was so in love with the pickup skirt from the Fairytale Seersucker dress that I decided to do a pickup skirt crossed with a bubble skirt, this time shorter and more sculptural thanks to the netting inside of it.

I also made this flower to top a coordinating headband.

So there it is, my Signature Look.
