Tater’s Gray Houndstooth Shirt

I wanted to experiment with mixing fabrics on a boy’s shirt. It’s harder to do than mixing fabrics for girls, but why should girls get to have all the fun? So I slashed my button-up shirt pattern to add side panels, then did solid side panels, button placket, back yoke, collar and pocket with this cool gray chevron print on the front, back, sleeves and collar band.

I think it’s a great mix of retro and modern, and Tater likes it so much he decided to wear it for school pictures the next day.  I also think it’ll look cool paired with gray cords (coming up on my list of stuff to make) as the weather gets cooler.

First he ran around the yard…

Then he got his trike
And played until the sun set…
